Addcomposites launched plug and play AFP/ATL for cost-effective composite manufacturing

addcomposites is a research project startup company of the University of Alto in Finland, specializing in the accessible automated composite manufacturing system. It has developed a plug and play solution called afp-xs for the automatic fiber placement (AFP)/automatic tape laying (ATL) process, which can be installed on any existing manipulator. This small, lightweight tool is ordered for thousands of euros a month. By developing each subsystem, control and software element in-house, addcomposites provides consumers with the lowest cost while maintaining aerospace quality

this cost and performance allows manufacturers to simply rent tool heads for their facilities and convert purchased robot arms into high-quality ATL/AFP systems by quantifying these physical performance indicators. AFP-XS "Our xpressn lux can replace the costly leather material system by using dry fibers, thermosetting prepregs and low-temperature thermoplastic composite belts to produce lightweight, complex shaped structures and optimize load-bearing and efficiency.

addcomposites was launched as a research project in 2017 with the goal of integrating all the necessary steps of AFP - namely, fiber feeding, tape cutting, impregnation and placement - into one step in the experimental process. Its initial Afp-xs is the first step in this direction

addcomposites is currently located in ESA business incubators (esa-bic, Espoo, Finland) outside Helsinki, and is conducting pilot production tests with new aerospace companies to verify that the technology is suitable for various applications. The company is supported by esa-bic funding and esa-bic customers, but will complete its seed funding at the beginning of the fourth quarter of 2019

addcomposites has just completed a composite manufacturing automation project with the largest composite manufacturer in Finland, and is preparing to commercially launch its afp-xs tool before the fourth quarter of 2019. Other system functions will be disclosed more closely at this release
